This past Friday night, I decided to be a little adventurous in the kitchen and go outside my culinary comfort zone. I decided to make a Chinese Food feast for Bill and I. Sure, I’m no stranger to Asian influenced dishes, but committing to creating a four dish Chinese food meal was no small feat. Not only is there a lot of multitasking involved, but you have to carefully schedule your prep time because most of the dishes take less than 10 minutes to cook. Luckily I had my sous chef to assist with the actual cooking.
Whenever we go out to dinner at our favorite Chinese food restaurant, we always order the sizzling beef plate. I never realized how simple this tasty dish is to cook until I started researching recipes. While we may not have gone all out with the cast iron tray to ensure sizzling beef table side, the flavors were all there and made for the perfect main course for our feast!
beef fillet, sliced thinly
1 onion, sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 tbsp freshly ground black pepper
1 large green pepper, sliced
3 tbsp light soy sauce
1 tbsp rice vinegar
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp corn flour
1 tsp baking soda
Marinate beef in 3 tbsp light soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, corn flour, 1/2 tbsp black pepper and baking soda for at least 2 hours.
Using a pan over high heat add oil and toss in the beef and brown on all sides, this will take roughly 1 minute in a really hot pan.
Add garlic and stir fry for 30 seconds. Next, add in the onions, remaining black pepper and green peppers and stir fry for 2 more minutes.
