There’s something about grilled red onions that get me every time. Besides the fact that they get me teary eyed almost any time I slice, chop, or even look at one the wrong way, I cannot get enough of them. Combine that savory sweet onion with salty soy sauce and hearty beef and it’s game over. Skewers are such an easy dish to prep and cook, but still brings the wow factor in the flavor department. You can easily pair these with a side of rice or quinoa or maybe even a medley of grilled vegetables or you could even throw it all together to make your own fried rice—my mouth if watering just thinking about it!
1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoons honey
1/4 cup white onion, diced
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated or minced
1 pound sirloin steak, cubed
1 red onion, chopped into large pieces
Skewers, be sure to soak wooden ones for 30 mins prior to cooking
Combine soy sauce, vegetable oil, lemon juice, honey, white onions, garlic and ginger in a large Ziploc bag. Add the steak cubes and marinate 4-6 hours.
Heat a cast iron grill pan over medium high heat. Assemble skewers, alternating meat and slices of onion onto skewers.
Add to pan, cooking for 10 to 12 minutes (or until desired doneness), turning occasionally.
